Our Home - George Nelms Sports Park

Location: 5650 Mitch Owens Drive, Manotick, Ontario, K4M 1B2 (Map)

George Nelms Sports Park came to fruition in 2011 after a historic agreement with the Nelms family designating the thirty-two (32) acres to the use of Ottawa South United for a soccer-specific complex. George Nelms serves as the primary training facility for OPDL teams from May 15th-September 30th. George Nelms currently has over two-hundred (200) parking spaces available, as roughly 50,000 people use the George Nelms Soccer Park throughout the soccer season.

  • In 2015, we officially opened our club's FIFA Grade Artificial Turf Field
  • George Nelms was the first club-based facility within Ontario to be selected as a host venue for the Ontario Player Development League in 2014
  • George Nelms has hosted multiple training camps, including most recently St Thomas Aquinas College, New York for their pre-season
  • George Nelms has been innovative in our flexibility with field design being the first facility within Ottawa to introduce multiple high quality 9v9 fields

Club Strategic Plan - Infrastructure Development

Pursue the completion of our Ottawa South United Soccer Complex "A Home of Our Own"

The George Nelms facility will contain:

  • Six (6) full size soccer pitches that can be subdivided for "mini" soccer
  • The George Nelms Fieldhouse that will act as the hub for all key OSU soccer activities
  • The construction and operation of at least one turf field
  • The development of new U9-U12 appropriate fields
  • Develop four (4) mini (either 7v7 or 9v9) soccer pitches

Technical Features:

  • Training equipment available on site (portable goals, mannequins, storage)
  • The ample space at the facility allows for portable storage, facilities and media rooms to be on site during this time period
  • The facility can be easily brought offline for exclusive use

Security Features:

  • The facility is completely secured with six foot fencing surrounding the property
  • The facility is only accessible to vehicles via one entrance, which is secured by a locked gate
  • There is capacity for a security guard to be positioned at the locked gate to limit access into the facility
  • There is a separate individual entrance for overflow parking from St. Mark's Catholic High School (adjacent to the facility) if a secondary entrance point is required
  • Ability to close the facility and relocate training and games to alternative facilities if required
